Looking forward to NYC MySQL Meetup, May 8th

I'm so looking forward to the NYC MySQL Meetup on May 8th because I'll get a chance to hang out with Damion Hankejh (@hankejh), CTO of  of Majestyk Apps.

We're going to be jointly presenting about Tesora DVE and the Tesora DBaaS Platform.

Before Majestyk Apps, Damion has done a lot of cool things. At age 15 (yup, not a typo) he was working with HP's R&D lab to implement Adobe PostScript in HP's laser printers. He studied computer engineering at MIT focusing on massively parallel architectures and machine intelligence.

Database as a service is already a big deal in the public cloud. Amazon’s RDS, DynamoDB and Redshift are some of the most rapidly growing services in Amazon's rapidly growing portfolio. Other players like Rackspace, HP and Salesforce also have strong offerings in this space.

Boston OpenStack Meetup

If you happen to be in the Boston area and are interested in OpenStack, you should most certainly attend the Boston OpenStack Meetup.

It is one of the larger OpenStack Meetups around, and as I write this it has over 800 members! The meetup has been around since October 2011 and I've attended some wonderful presentations and had some great conversations here.

Percona Live 2014 Presentation - DaaS Platform with Tesora and Trove

Yesterday we had a wonderful afternoon of presentations and converation about OpenStack at Percona Live 2014.

A quick introduciton by Peter Zaitsev was followed by an overview by Florian Haas of Hastexo. He crammed his presentation full of fun facts including how close the ties were between OpenStack and the database community. Did you know that OpenStack owes a lot of its development practices to Drizzle? We are all going to be sharing our presentations and I'll update this post with pointers to the presentations by others.
